I do know that Swiss Chalet is a lot more popular now than when I was actively collecting. I suggest you do a Goggle search under "Marcrest Swiss Chalet" to see what other people are selling them for. Swiss Chalet tends to be sold on eBay and Etsy. In the past, I also bought several pieces from Replacements.com. I'm intrigued by the piece you describe as a "larger covered bowl." I'm guessing that's what I call my casserole bowl. If it's what I think it is, it's probably the most valuable piece, but would need to see a photo to be sure. Amazingly, lots of other people started collecting it shortly afterward. I haven't seen any at flea markets in a long while, but it does appear for sale online all the time. In fact, I recently bought a large serving bowl that I had never seen before as well as an odd-shaped sugar bowl. So I recommend that you keep looking! The fun, after all, is always in the hunt! I wasn't actually shopping for these dishes but it jumped off of the page at me because I have a platter that belonged to my grandmother. I have always loved the pattern and added a couple of small saucers a few years back. I would love to begin a collection, but it sounds like I might be too late! My favorite color combination has always been blue and green. That's probably why I like this pattern so much. Thanks for educating me on the history of Swiss Chalet. You have renewed my interest! Several of my Swiss Chalet pieces say "Oven Proof" on the bottom, so I've always assumed they were microwavable; but, then again, there were no commercially available microwave ovens in the early 1960s when these were made. I don't do much microwaving, but have used these plates a few times in the past. We don't use ...Hello: Thanks for your question. We don't use our Swiss Chalet every day, but I have eaten off it throughout most of my life and never once thought about lead content. This was a good wake-up call. My bible for vintage dishes is Michael Pratt's MID-CENTURY MODERN DINNERWARE (Schiffer Publishing, 2002). I didn't see anything there about lead poisoning or contaminants, so did a quick google search and found some good advice on the Smithsonian Magazine website: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/is-it-safe-to-eat-off-vintage-plates-66089830/. The author doesn't recommend not using older dinnerware, but does caution against eating off of older cracked plates that might be releasing lead. Unfortunately, I know nothing more than this, so wish you luck in your search for further info. cynCynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10040220362362796682noreply@blogger.com
